Missoma

Marisa Hordern studied Modern History at Oxford University, before testing out her creative passion for jewellery, and in particular semi-precious stones, by making ‘jewellery belts’. These consisted of vintage brooch centrepieces (from art-deco 1920s to 1960s in origin) surrounded by strands of semi-precious beads. The belts were an instant hit due to their unique one-off designs and were sold in exclusive London boutiques such as Paul & Joe and MiMi, as well as receiving press coverage from the coveted pages of Harpers & Queen, Vanity Fair and the Saturday Telegraph Magazine. Marisa then spent two years working in media for Richemont, a luxury goods holding company owning international brands such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Chloe amongst others, before deciding to return to designing. Joining forces with her mother, Michele, she saw there was a niche in the market for affordable but imaginative designs for fashion jewellery. Missoma’s objective was to rival the high-end fashion jewellery market at affordable prices. Thus Missoma was born, taking its name from the combined names of mother Michele, sister Sophie and Marisa. Mother and daughter team have developed a striking style of their own, being known and recognised for their vibrant colour combinations. These have been influenced by the vivid colours seen in the works of Impressionists such as Gaugin and the Russian avant-garde artists of the early 20th century, and inspired by travels to countries with such rich cultures as Mexico, India, Morocco and Thailand. Missoma’s designs are both elegant and sophisticated whilst still being young, feminine, fun and sexy. Their aim has been to create distinctive pieces that emphasise their clientele’s individuality and flair. Apart from the 18ct gold plated and semi-precious stone range of fashion jewellery, Missoma has now also launched its first 18ct gold and diamond Fine Jewellery range in response to popular demand! Missoma is fast becoming an established and much sought after jewellery label within the UK, with a loyal and ever-growing following. Having attracted much interest from the fashion media and been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Grazia, The Daily Telegraph, Stella Magazine (Sunday Telegraph supplement), You Magazine (Daily Mail supplement) and the FT: How to Spend It, it is now also winning many fans amongst fashion circles in Europe and elsewhere abroad, whilst celebrity fans include Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johanssen, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Joss Stone, and Jessica Biel.
